Pink sorrel

Pink wood sorrel (oxalis articulata) is growing and blooming in clumps of bright pink by the roadside in Onslow County and I stopped recently to take a photo. So pretty!

Osprey catches dinner

I was down by the water in Onslow County recently looking for songbirds when I noticed a large bird diving in the river, so I took some quick (blurry) shots with my camera. I didn't realize until later that it was an osprey and he'd caught a fish for dinner. Good for him but poor fish. :(

Mystery lizard

This little lizard cautiously ventured across the patio recently. How beautiful! Especially those eyes! After reading and looking at photos on various web sites, I'm going to guess that it's a female green anole but I'm not sure at all. Do you know? Please comment!

Bluebirds by the bird house

I haven't seen any bluebirds at the feeders in Onslow County but they're hanging around the bird house so I think they must be ready to build a nest! I think there are two mated pairs. Bluebird babies are so cute!

Hawk says hi

This hawk came and landed in a tree in the yard and waited just long enough for me to run and grab the camera and get a photo before he flew off. Thanks, hawk! I don't know much about hawks but I think this is a red-shouldered hawk. Thoughts?

A visit from a blue jay

I love blue jays! But they tend to be heard and not seen around our yard and feeders. They're very noisy in the trees and flying around but also shy, apparently, so I don't see them very often. When I do, it's exciting! I was glad to get some good shots of this character recently. :)
